The Peacock's Tale - New KAL

We have unveiled our newest shawl knit-along (KAL) for February! This KAL is hosted by Lisa Greenburg on Thursday afternoons and has been incredibly popular. Each month Lisa selects a new shawl pattern -- something unique, fashionable and wearable -- with features designed to challenge you to achieve new skills in your knitting. For February, she's chosen The Peacock's Tale shawl. If you're an experienced (intermediate to advanced) and adventurous knitter who would like to meet regularly with others who are working on the same project, we'd love to have you! To join the KAL, please sign up at the shop or call us to reserve your spot and we'll take payment over the phone. Deadline to register is Wednesday, February 3. The cost to join the KAL is $30 and we meet 3 times in February with a 4th day as a bonus this month.

Week 1 - Thursday, February 4, 2016 - 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. (swatch and cast on)
Week 2 - Thursday, February 11, 2016 - 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Week 3 - Thursday, February 18, 2016 - 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Week 4 - Thursday, February 25, 2016 - An earlier meeting time to be determined

You can purchase the pattern at Twisted Yarns or via Ravelry. To get the most out of your learning experience, we suggest using a lace weight yarn -- our yarn suggestions are below -- or let us help you choose a yarn. When you purchase yarn for the KAL, you will receive a 10% discount on the yarn.

For the Thursday shawl KAL, we reserve a time just for you and your fellow students, a location (the front table at the shop) and a dedicated instructor.

Happiness is YARN! Happy New Year

Happy New Year to all of our friends and customers! Thank you for supporting your local yarn shop. We are so grateful for all of you and enjoy your visits. We had a great 2015 and are gearing up for another fun year! Please subscribe to the email list because subscribers are among the first ones to know about special events and KALs. I've recommitted to the blog and will be updating more in 2016. Of course, you can also follow us on Facebook and me (Janet) on Instagram, where I post random things from the shop and my life.

Our January calendar is now live and linked in the sidebar of this blog and also below:

Please note that the class descriptions are also in the sidebar and linked again here for your convenience:

Twisted Yarns Class Descriptions

As a reminder, the class descriptions link lists all of the classes we regularly teach, regardless of whether or not they appear on the calendar in a given month. We are happy to set up a class for you -- or you can schedule a private lesson in order to have one-on-one help with your projects. If you're interested in moving on from beginning knitting, we'll tailor classes and lesson suggestions to your interests. The path to becoming a better knitter, crocheter, weaver, or spinner isn't always a linear one, and not all fiber lovers have the same goals. The important thing to know is that we have skilled instructors and staff members who remember what it was like to be a beginner and can ask questions and give you feedback so that you can discover what your passion is.

While it's likely you don't need more yarn, maybe you want to love to fall in love with your stash all over again, or you'd like to finish long-neglected projects. Perhaps you just need encouragement to rip out and start over -- or even de-stash yarn on Ravelry. We can help. Come and see us.

Happy Fall! Thank you all so much for helping make our annual Socktoberfest event last week a success! It's bigger and better every year, thanks to all of you!

The October class calendar is complete! By popular request, we now have an additional toe-up, Magic Loop sock class on three consecutive Thursdays beginning October 15th. Call during business hours to sign up for this or another class and find out which supplies you need to purchase. We are here to help even after the class or if you need additional encouragement. Stop by with your project and we'll see if it's a quick fix or something you need to speak to one of the instructors about.

Drop Spindle & Nuno Felting Classes

This month, we two popular classes have returned to the lineup! Please call us early in the week (beginning Tuesday at 10:00 am) if you'd like to take either -- or both -- of these classes:

Spinning on a Drop Spindle (Beginner)
Saturday, October 10, 2015
2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Want to learn to spin your own yarns? Join us to study the properties of wool, the hand spindle, and techniques to spin your own. Bring your own spindle, or purchase one from the shop.
Wool will be provided.

Fee: $25 - Independent Instructor -- class fee must be paid at time of class sign up

Nuno Felting (Absolute Beginner)
Fun to take with a friend!
Friday, October 16, 2015
10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.

Join fiber artist Gika Rector for this introduction to the magical process of making nuno felt. It is an amazingly light fabric made by felting a bit of wool into a loosely woven natural fiber fabric. Perfect for our southern climate, nuno felt has exciting possibilities for creating custom fabrics. The underlying woven fabric adds strength and drape while the wool/felt adds texture, color and endless design possibilities. In this class, you can choose to either create a nuno-felted scarf or a square design that you can use as a pillow cover.

Fee: $35 plus a materials fee paid to the instructor of $10.
Materials: Bring a towel. Level: Beginner – no knitting involved!

Beginning Fair Isle Headband Class

Our Beginning Fair Isle Headband Class is September 15, 2015 (Tuesday) from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. The class is $25. If you are an intermediate knitter with experience working with circular needles and knitting in the round, that's all you need to take the class!

Materials: 2 skeins Cascade superwash sport in two contrasting colors or 1 skein of Cascade superwash sport + 1 skein of Adriafil Knit Col (to create the effect seen below -- the Knit Col helps create the plaid pattern).

Please check the Class Descriptions link in the sidebar to see the homework required for the class. You will likely have enough yarn left over to knit at least one more headband, if not two.
