News: Happy New Year everyone! We hope you had a safe and wonderful holiday season. If you are anything like us, we are all brimming with ideas and creativity about what we want to knit next! There’s something about winter that makes you want to knit more, maybe it’s the cold weather (occasionally!) or just having more time after all the holiday rush to be still and let our creative sides fully emerge. We have a lot of new yarns in the shop and many new ones on the way.

We are so excited to be celebrating our 5th Anniversary! It’s hard to believe it’s been that long since we opened our doors -- it has flown by so quickly. We’ve enjoyed getting to know you and helping you learn and create. We’ve also learned a lot from so many of you about how to let our imaginations soar. We’ve seen friends come and go, as we have gone through many changes within our four walls. We’ve seen a fire, hurricanes, tropical storms, the Yarn Harlot, and even a little snow on the roof! We went from having limited stock, to having so much yarn it is overflowing the shelves. It’s been an amazing journey so far, and we feel blessed by being given this opportunity to share our love of fiber. We hope you will join us February 12th through the 14th as we celebrate in the best way we know how -- with lots of chocolate, and big savings on yarn! We hope to see you all then. We will be open late on Thursday the 12th. We thank you for being a part of our growth and our success, and for your support throughout these last 5 years. Look for details about our Anniversary Celebration Sale in your e-mail, on our website and blog in a couple of weeks.

Please note that we are no longer including the calendars in our mailings. They are accessible at our website and/or our blog so you can view and/or print them at home!

New Yarns: We recently received Berroco’s Comfort Chunky, and it’s just as nice as the DK and the Worsted weight. Also, from Berroco is their new Mica, Seduce Colors and Bonsai Colors along with Nora Gaughan’s new patterns. We have the new Meriboo from Frog Tree, which is a merino/bamboo blend and lovely to knit. We have a fresh shipment of Manos Cotton Stria, and the awesome Anthology Blanket pattern. We are offering another session of the class to make this blanket in case you missed out on the first one. We just received a new order of Smooshy sock yarn for those of you who have been asking for it.

Recently arrived is the new Sublime Cotton Kapok DK, with the cute pattern books that we always enjoy. A lovely new palette of spring colors in the Sublime Soya Cotton is also on the shelf. On the way from Plymouth is the popular Jean Nee in a DK weight. Those of you who were saddened by Wildflower DK being discontinued will love this new yarn. We have had Jean Nee in a worsted weight, and it’s been very popular. Also on the way is the new Malabrigo sock weight yarn, which has been a long time in coming after the fire in their mill. Noro has introduced a new cotton/wool blend yarn, which looks great and will be here soon. We have a good supply of Noro’s Yuzen as well.

New colors of Manos Clasica and Silk Wool are on the way! We just received Araucania’s new yarn Ruca, which is made from sugar cane fiber. We are waiting on their new washable merino called Itata Multi. New from Plymouth will be Mushishi, a wool/silk blend and Trabajos, a 100% pure wool from Peru. We are also expecting a new Bamboo Silk from Ella Rae. We have ordered the new Addi Click needles. We expect to have a supply coming this spring.

We are most excited to be receiving Jamieson’s 2-ply Shetland Spindrift any day now! It’s a 100% Shetland wool, in terrific shades – perfect for the Girasole class or the Fair Isle Bag Knit Along. For you spinning fiber fanatics, we have a new supply of Alpaca combed top from Alpaca with a Twist, and a fresh shipment of Targhee Top in a beautiful array of Mountain Colors! We have ordered many colors of Cascade’s 220 Superwash wool. It is great for just about any project!

To make room for all of the new yarn on the way, we have had to move several wonderful yarns to our clearance section. If you are looking for good quality yarn, but are watching pennies these days (who isn’t?) you will want to check out this section next time you are in the shop. Spring will be here soon! Watch our blog for updates and details on new arrivals!

New Books & Other Stuff: Some of the new books we have received include the very popular Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush, Knitting Socks with Handpainted Yarn, Closely Knit, and French Girl Knits. For the kiddos we have Scrumptious Toppers for Tots and Toddlers and Knits for Bears to Wear. The Essential Guide to Color Knitting Techniques arrived and is loaded with great information on several techniques (not just color techniques!). We also have some lovely new wood shawl pins from a woodturner in Massachusetts -- Ron Pessolano. He does beautiful work, and these pins would make a great gift for someone along with your hand knit shawl or scarf!

New Classes: We are excited to offer a class for a circular lace blanket or shawl – the Girasole by Jared Flood a.k.a. Brooklyn Tweed! It is knit in the round and has several different lace patterns to learn. We will also be offering a class for the February Lady Sweater. It is a great sweater for beginners with no finishing! For a quick, easy scarf project we are offering a class for a Wave Stitch Scarf. We also found a great pattern for a quick snowboarding hat! This popular hat style is another fast and easy project (you can create it before heading to the slopes this spring). By request, we are offering a new class for a Fair Isle sweater. The pattern is written for any size, but we will be making the child size for the class. Another new class is the Geometry Throw from Manos – a great way to learn to knit in the round and create different shapes. We have had several customers requesting crochet classes, so we are re-introducing our Learn to Crochet class. Please support your local yarn shop by using yarn purchased at Twisted Yarns for your class. We offer a 10% discount on yarn purchased for use during a class.

Special Events: Our Knit Along this spring will be Beth Brown Reinsel’s Fair Isle Bag. This was originally in Interweave Knits (Summer 2004). Now Beth has created this as a separate pattern including directions for knitting it in the round. It is a beautiful bag. Beth was our instructor for our first retreat and at that time we sold several kits for making the bag. So for those of you who haven’t knit it up yet, this is your chance to get together with others to knit on it together. For those newly interested, we have several yarn options that would work for this beautiful bag.

Charity Knitting: Our Newborn Hat Project continues, so come by and pick up some yarn and a pattern and you’ll also receive a coupon for $1 off any purchase for each hat you bring in. Please make sure the hats you make are at least 3” in diameter. We deliver hats to Texas Children’s Hospital and MD Anderson -- the hospitals and babies greatly appreciate your hard work. If you’d like to knit for our troops overseas, patterns are available on several websites including OperationHomeFront.org and TheShipsProject.com. Learn about knitting for newborn babies in other countries at WarmUpAmerica.org and SavetheChildren.org

We cannot accept yarn that has been wound, or yarn that has been kept in a smoke filled environment. Additionally, we will only accept returns of needles and/or accessories in their original packaging for 2 weeks from the date of purchase with your receipt. That should give you plenty of time to do a gauge swatch and figure out if you need a different needle size. No returns on books, patterns, or clearance merchandise.

Special Orders: When you are placing a Special Order, we require a 50% non-refundable deposit. Special Orders are not returnable.

Holds & Clearance Items: We are happy to hold regular priced yarn/needles, etc. for 30 days, and then they will be returned to the shelf. Please call us as soon as you know you won’t need the yarn. We cannot hold clearance yarn.

Classes: All class fees are non-refundable! Please understand that we are securing an instructor’s time and holding a place just for you. You will receive a 10% discount on any yarn purchased for a class. Please support your local yarn shop by using our yarns for your class project.

We are happy to help you with any project at any time, but hope you will understand that if the store is busy, we may not be able to give you 100% of our attention! If you have a project that requires a lot of help, or you will need more than 15 minutes of our time, please call the shop and book a private lesson with one of our instructors. That way we can give you our undivided attention, and we won’t keep other customers waiting for help. The fee is $15 per hour.
